Triumphant
By Pastor Steve Logan
"And
having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing
over them in it," Col. 2:15.
In Roman times a triumph was a magnificent procession in honor of a victorious
general, the highest military honor he could obtain. He would enter the city in
a chariot, preceded by the senate and magistrates, musicians, the spoils of his
victory, and the captives were openly bound in chains.
Speaking unto the Corinthians, the
Apostle Paul declared that we should be thankful unto our God, which always
causeth us to triumph in Christ, 2
Cor. 2:14. Beloved, His
victory is our victory, His glory is our glory. In this triumphant parade he has
led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men, Eph
4:8. Not only has he bound
his captive, but we, as the church, are in this grand procession; we are the
spoils of his victory! We are the gold, the silver, the jewels that he stripped
from the powers of darkness. David said: "By
this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over
me," Ps 41:11. David was
saying I know I have the favor of my Lord because he makes me to triumph. Paul
said it in a different way when he said, "in
all things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us", Ro.
8:37. Then on in Ps.
92:4, David said, "I
will triumph in the work of thy hands."
The War Is Over
"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem and cry unto her… that her warfare is accomplished," Isa. 40:1. The Spirit of the lord came in the days of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and said unto the inhabitants thereof, "Thus saith the Lord unto you, be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not your’s, but God’s." Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still and see the salvation of the Lord," II Chor. 20:15-17.
Beloved, this is
the same place that we find ourselves in the new testament: raised and seated
together with Christ, Eph.
2:6. Look back at what the
Lord told Jehoshaphat: "set
yourself", "stand
ye still". This is where
we are to be in this dispensation seated with Christ in victory and knowing
of the finished work of Calvary.
We are to arm ourselves with
the whole armor of God so that we may be able to withstand in the evil day. We
recognize that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strongholds. Our stance is to hold on to what Christ has
already done. We are to hold to our confidence, Heb.
3:14. We are to lay hold
on the hope set before us, Heb.
6:18. We are to hold fast
to the profession of our faith, Heb.
10:22, knowing that we are
overcomers by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony, Rev.
12:11. Our testimony is not
some off the wall testifing, it is the spirit of prophecy, Rev.
19:10. Beloved it is the
spoken word of God Almighty given unto and into us as a living witness. He that
believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself and this Spirit of the
prophetic word is the record or witness of God in us, 1
John 5:10-12. I believed,
therefore have I spoken, Ps.
116:10. "For
with the heart man believeth un……..to righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made un……..to salvation" , Rom. 10:10.
The Lord speaking
through the prophet, Isaiah, said, "
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness , ye that seek the lord; look
unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are
digged. Look unto Abraham your father, and Sara, that bare you," Isa.
51:1-2.
Beloved, what truth is there hidden in Abraham understood that calls us to honor
attention? If it has to do with our forefathers flesh, nothing, but, if it has
to do with our faith, then everything. Now look at Rom.
4:3, Abraham believed God.
Abraham learned from God that no matter what things seem to be, what really
matters is what God says. One facet of truth to understand that God declares the
end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done,
Isa. 46:10.
And not only that, he also creates circumstances that are contrary to that truth
so that a ream of faith can exist. The rewards and the fullness of the abundance
of life comes by how much we overcome the circumstances that challenge the
authenticity of our faith in his spoken word. Abraham that the lord called those
things which be not as though they were, Rom.
4:17. He learned to simply
agree with what God spoke, no matter what people or anything else declares. The
word says; who against hope believe in hope. Let me ask you something right now,
what was against hope? It was a circumstance that God allowed in order to
challenge the integrity of his faithfulness. A test to show the authenticity of
his belief unto himself. What do you believe, Abraham? Let's put it to the test
and then we’ll see. The Bible says he staggered not at the promise of God
through unbelief; but was strong in faith giving glory to God. Abraham knew
where his faith was seated. Circumstances would arise to challenge his resolve,
but Abraham was fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able to
perform.
"This is the Victory… Even our faith", I John5:4.
Beloved, let our hearts be filled with thanksgiving unto our God. In conclusion, there has been many in the word of the Lord who has stood in the van guard of honor deserving the highest military triumphant procession. Among these are Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohile, IISam 23:9. He has been credited with fighting the fight of faith until his hand was weary and clave unto the sword, till he could not let it go. Can you imagine being able to hold on to the word of the Lord till you could no longer turn loose, and the Lord wrought a great victory that day. Oh, if only we would hold on to His promises, we would find out that our faith would still be rewarded because He is still the same yesterday, today, and for ever, Heb. 13:8. Then there's Caleb whom the Lord said that because he had the spirit of the Word with him and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land where into he went, Num. 14:24. Caleb was chosen to go and spy out the land of promise, and bring back a report to the people of God. Ten others were sent along with him and, Joshua the son of Nun. But they came back with a slanderous report, Num. 14:36. Caleb was whole heartedly in fellowship with the word of his Lord, and even when the testimony of these ten should have been law, grace and truth stood in the voice of Joshua, and Caleb until forty years later when the spirit of triumphant victory caused them to inherit the promises! And what more shall I say? Time would fail me to tell of Gideon and of Barak and of Samson and of Jephthah of David also and Samuel and of the Prophets, yes, Beloved, we are triumphant in Christ Jesus! Amen!
